Thoughts on “Backpack Traveler: The Ultimate Theme for Travel Bloggers”

  1. Customer support is very helpful. The design quality and documentation quality is top quality, informative and detailed.

Very good theme that I’m currently using for one year. It was not easy at the beginning but then I found this theme very flexible and powerful.

The theme looks nice, but it’s hard to import. At the first step when the demo import needs to be done, everything crashes. I do not recommend it to anyone.

The theme is very pretty, but very complicated to configure. You’ll have to spend hours trying to customize it, to find the options you want to modify.

This is the first time I am doing any of this and I got so frustrated I quit for almost a year trying to just set up my account. This theme makes everything so difficult. There is no direction as to what plugins to use, how to set it up properly, and how to edit and make changes to get it looking how you want it.

  2. Great theme! Quite complex, but it’s easy to work with. Beautiful theme, but it can be complicated for some. Sometimes it is necessary to know coding to get what you need.

This is a beautiful theme that fit my needs very well without too much customization. When I did have a question or issue, the support team was prompt, courteous, and effective.

Very difficult to use and edit. Outdated manual and instructions – support doesn’t help you and the video tutorials are useless.

The design looks very nice on the theme. It’s very slow, full of bugs, and things change automatically without doing changes by myself. A lot of error messages and a lot of discussions with customer service or researching on the internet for solutions. The code seems to be so bad that the website is so slow that you have to wait 4-5 seconds until the page loaded. The mobile version of the page is terrible. I reduced the image size and did all the caching and other optimization and still have the problem with the speed. The widgets part is the worst I have ever seen. It is not working most of the time and if you want to change things, it’s not even showing or it’s not working overall. At least the customer support was able to help me to install the plugin to get the traditional WordPress widgets back to make it at least adjustable, but still not user-friendly at all. Overall very disappointed with the theme. At least it looks nice, but it’s not worth it if the visitors leave the page before it even loads.

  3. I purchased this theme to save time but have wasted days trying to install it – and every time the website had broken links and it wasn’t functioning. Finally, I paid Envato to professionally install it – but they said the site is outdated and the theme plugins need updating. I can’t find a way to contact the author. The last time the theme was updated was in December 2021, and it’s now June 2022 – so it’s not compatible with WordPress 6, the current WordPress version. The plugins that are required for the site to function, WP Bakery and Slider Revolution, need updating but the author has to do that because I can’t. So 100 dollars later (installation and theme purchase) and I am left with nothing usable. Extremely disappointed.

The theme and code are not working for the current PHP-Version 8. The only answer from support is to install the new theme version, which I did by buying it a couple of days ago. Sry but the support is bad. The theme works on a lower level of PHP version, my example: 7.4.

  4. Although this is a beautiful theme, that’s all it is. Bad things: worst documentation I have ever seen on a theme, very heavy and takes forever to load no matter what you do. Top Issue – I bought it a year ago and I cannot do any updates! The version I have is 1.6 and now it’s 2.02, and without the updates, things break down. The theme cannot update from within WP, so the only way is to download it again from my Envato account and reinstall it! Very inconvenient. I am installing it again in a subdomain, copying the content, and then migrating it! It is a pain and guess what: it is broken! The menu doesn’t appear, and I cannot download the demo. I barely managed to download the theme options – no widgets and no content because I get a 503 error – source server unavailable and also “denied access” message although I have registered the theme’s license. Not to mention support – very poor. I tried to get in touch last year a few times after my purchase, but they never ever answered!

Good-looking theme, has some bugs here and there as there are thousands of functions. The theme is heavily customized to have that nice map and destination structure. But it is worth a try if you search for a good-looking travel theme. The support replies usually within a day or two and solves 90% of the issues.

Its a good site to start your own blog even if you are a beginner. They helped me because of problems with deregistration and losing license. All support from Author and Envato runs good. Thank You. It’s a good choice to buy this theme.

  5. I am new to the blogging world and this theme has made me suffer. You still have to fix the entire site on your own with this theme because nothing is included. You will end up spending more money and time! My site was crashed for three weeks because the plugins that came with the theme weren’t working. This theme is just a guide and requires a lot of coding.

This theme was advertised as a beginner’s level theme, needing no coding experience. It also did not outright detail that all of the buttons, country icons, etc. would need to be purchased separately. If you are on a budget and new to WordPress, this is not the theme for you. It is a beautiful theme, but it is complicated and definitely requires a higher level of knowledge.

This theme is in fact beautiful but there are plenty of SEO problems I unfortunately had to edit by myself on the core files. The team is quick to answer but they obviously didn’t code for you and give you just the path to edit. Until now they didn’t consider the SEO problems and they did not push any release solving them.

  6. Updating a previous review: This theme does have a lot of customization options, which can take some time, but customization is also one of the benefits. If you work off the templated pages, it’s not too difficult to set everything up! The Mikado team has also been responsive when I’ve had questions about the theme.

I love the design, but like many said, you have to create a lot by yourself. It is definitely not for first-time users so I would recommend you know your way into designing, using HTML, and using WordPress before buying this.

Love the design and so far it’s very easy to edit demo content and quickly redesign my website.

Great support received and little ‘bugs’ resolved quickly! Love the intuitive theme and have found it easy to use and set up.

Quick note: my rating is not for how the theme looks or works once it’s all set up. It’s a beautiful theme and absolutely perfect for travelers. But do NOT buy this expensive theme unless you are a) prepared to buy third-party plugins that are required to make this theme work to its best advantage, and b) a dab hand with PHP and more techy ‘back end’ WordPress stuff.

  7. This theme is very difficult to use and has many options, making it complicated. The documentation is awful, and the theme options in the demo are not available. I have waited multiple weekdays for my ticket to be responded to. The author often replies in private, which doesn’t help. If you want to pay more, you get the revolution slider. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS THEME UNTIL THE AUTHOR STEPS UP ON HIS CUSTOMER SERVICE.

The layout is the most difficult thing I’ve ever tried to work with. Every time I have requested help, they are unable to answer my question. I am always able to figure it out with hours of coding, but this is definitely not meant for anyone who wants something easy, usable, and mobile-friendly.

It is a good theme but needs to improve the speed test and functionality. The maps in the “Destinations section” are not a theme functionality; you have to do it yourself. A lot of HARD HARD work. You also need to know Adobe editing tools.

I’ve been waiting well over 48 hours for a response from your team regarding the Backpack traveler template. I really need assistance in setting up this theme and understanding it. Please respond to the private ticket asap. Thanks.
